Adobe Photoshop remains the most popular photo editor for many years. This can be explained by the practically unlimited possibilities of the program. With it you can, among other things, blur the background or insert any picture in its place, even if you just took a picture at home.



To change the color of the background in Photoshop you need to separate the main object from the background. It should be noted that this method is suitable for Photoshop CC 2019, 2020 and 2021 versions. In earlier builds and in the popular CS6 you will not find the necessary function.

Step 1: Create a project

Start Photoshop and click the "Open" button. Load the image whose background you are going to change. In the Layers panel, select the added photo and unlock it if the picture is protected from changes. To do this, click on the lock icon next to the name.

In the left side column, find the "Quick Selection" tool, then click "Select Item" in the upper panel. Wait for the software to analyze the portrait and highlight the main object in the photo with a dotted line. After that, click the "Selection and Mask" button.

In the settings window, adjust the edges of the selected figure to make it look realistic on the new background. Pull the "Shift Edge" slider to the left until the selection is as neat and "seamless" as possible. To apply the change, click "OK".

When you return to the main program window, select the image in the Layers panel again. Right-click on it and find the "Add Layer Mask" option. By applying this option, we will be able to completely remove the background from the desired photo.
