Change contrast online
Hi all! In this article we will learn how to adjust the brightness and contrast of images in Photoshop. Let's look at how to edit an image directly, as well as using adjustment layers.
Directly decreasing/increasing the brightness and contrast
Pros of this method. Quick editing of an image or layer. Great for amateur photo editing.
Cons. If you have a complex, multi-layered project, this method is not recommended because once you apply the settings, you won't be able to change them. And in large and long projects, very often in the middle of the whole work it turns out that this or that photo is too bright or dull. We end up deleting it and uploading it again.
We load into photoshop the image that needs to be edited. Next, we need to select "Brightness/Contrast":
Brightness and Contrast settings window should open:
Now we only have to edit the values by moving the sliders:

Edit the brightness and contrast with the adjustment layer
Pros of this method. All brightness and contrast settings are stored in a separate layer. You can change the adjustment layer's settings at any time. The adjustment layer also affects the underlying layers. Plus, you can apply an adjustment layer to a specific layer by using an clipping mask.
Cons. We haven't found any.
We open in photoshop the photo whose brightness we want to edit. You can find the button for selecting an adjustment layer in the Layers panel, right here:
Click on the adjustment layer selection button and in the list that appears, look for "Brightness/Contrast". This is what we need:
An adjustment layer will appear above your photo, and it will look like this:
Now just activate the layer by clicking on it, and the "Properties" panel will have sliders to change the brightness and contrast of the image:
